this might be a waste of blog space, but i think it would be neat to swap family night ideas. so here was ours tonight:
sing "love at home", pray.
what are 3 things that make our home happy?
i packed a brown bag with 3 things (each person could reach in and grab/discuss):
1)a dish of strawberries cut vertically so they look like hearts. taped paper onto it "love" with scripture on it (John 13:34-35 Moroni 7:45-47)
2)a container of sour cream. taped paper to it "a good sense of humor" with scripture (proverbs 17:22). role play different situations where we choose to laugh and make the best of "sour" things that happen throughout the day.
3)a baggie of brown sugar taped to an hourglass. taped paper to it "time" with scripture (eccles. 3:1) this is the time god has given us to be together, we want to use it wisely...
when we put the 3 together, what do we get? a happy home!(and our family night treat: berries dipped in sugar and cream)
who's happy when we have a happy home? all of us.(o there's one who smiles on high)
sing "love at home" again (this time i let them shake little noisemakers each time "love at home" comes in the song)
our goal: remember to be together, be loving, and be cheerful this week. we're going to leave the noisemakers lying around all week, we'll shake them when we need to remember...
cheers!

How Fun! Where did you get such a cute idea?!?
her name's Jonelle...
that seems to be synonamous with creative and clever.
Thanks for the great idea...You always do such cute things. I hope your kids & husband appreciate you and all the hard work you do for them :)
hmm... you guys are way too nice to me...
trust me, our family nights never take more time/effort than what i can throw together in 5 minutes after dinner (while the kids finish eating...). that's it.
but if we all stick our ideas on here once in a while, it would make a nice collection!?!
worth a try.
last week we had our lesson on "the sword of truth". we sang let us all press on, we read ephesians 6:10-18, brought out the kids' swords, talked about how truth (word of god, scriptures, restored gospel) helps us fight off satan & make good choices...
then we watched the cool sword-fight scene in princess bride. they loved that. then we practiced our swordsmanship on each other.
another time, they really liked talking about faith then watching the indiana jones scene where indy has to take that leap of faith at the lion's head.
or the lesson on listening to the prophet's voice of warning, like a warning bell from a watchtower, then we got to watch the scene from swiss family robinson where francis' "pirate alarm" bells save the day.
You have the best ideas - I never would have come up with any of those. My "ideas" are usually just copied from someone's FHE web pages. :)
We tried this once, but with Sour Kraut, Ginger powder, and hot salsa. Needless to say, it didn't turn out so well.
how bout those FHE worm races. Every family member puts a worm on the big piece of paper with a little circle in the middle (the starting point)and a big outer circle (the finish line). Let's have J come up with a spiritual application for THAT.
the admonition of paul:
finish the race that is put before you. endure to the end....
ta-da!
Avoid slimy friends who will run at the first sign of trouble.
