So, we went to a "preview" with Cal Western at the Marriott here in Salt Lake Tues night. It was interesting...it definately got me more excited about moving on and starting that portion of our lives. They had an admissions counselor there and a 3rd year student (he is an extern in SLC) and a graduate that now works in SLC. There were 5 prospective students, me and the sister, mom and dad of one of the other students. We all just sat in a small conf room and it was basically just an open discussion. Anyone could ask any question and whoever wanted to answered it. We talked a lot about all the different programs they offer, the influence they have in San Diego/Southern Cal, how to find/cost of housing, the faculty support that is available, etc etc.. The school as a whole seems to be sincerely interested in how their students are doing. The current student/graduate talked a lot about how accessible the professors are and how hard they work to help you find interships/jobs. That seems to be (at least to me) what makes them stand out from a lot of other schools. But I guess that is hard to tell for sure....
We got a list of the "good" neighborhoods to look in and a bunch of emails for different professors etc. that would be able to answer more of our questions. The food was really good too...overall a really nice evening.
